Playing in the 2014 Cowboys Classic is just the boost Florida State?s schedule needs.
Nobody felt the consequences of playing a weak schedule this season more than the Seminoles and that likely will continue next season with Wofford, Nevada and Idaho joining Florida on FSU?s non-conference slate.
But adding Oklahoma State to kick off the 2014 season at Cowboys Stadium is a huge upgrade.
?We have wanted to step up our schedule and improve our strength of schedule and this game gives us a great non-conference opponent,? coach Jimbo Fisher said. ?To be able to open up our season at Cowboys Stadium will be a great experience for our payers and fans.?
FSU has shown it is not against facing top-ranked opponents. The Seminoles had a home-and-home with Oklahoma in 2010 and 2011 (losing both) and cannot be blamed for the watered down schedules of this season and next after West Virginia backed out of its home-and-home when it joined the Big 12.
The Oklahoma State game will be in prime time on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014.
?The announcement of this game is timely for Florida State in that we have in the past few weeks begun a determined effort to regularly schedule high profile non-conference football opponents,? AD Randy Spetman said.
Spetman added that other home-and-home and neutral site games with ?prominent? programs are in the works.
The 2013 Cowboy?s Classic will match LSU against TCU.
