FRIENDS and family have paid tribute to an ?intelligent, sophisticated and kind-hearted? teenager who died at Cheshunt train station.
William Davis, 16, known as Charlie to his friends, was an engineering student at the Hertford Regional College on the Broxbourne campus in Turnford, and died last Tuesday after being struck by a train.
Friends of the teeenager have used a tree near his home in Winchmore Hill in north London as a make-shift memorial to lay flowers and meet to remember him.
Charlie?s father, Anthony, said: ?We visited the wonderful memorial to our son, Charlie, on Thursday 14th February, Valentines Day, and witnessed the outpouring of love for him.
?I must thank you all for the heartfelt wishes and sentiments regarding Charlie. We are completely devastated at his loss.
?His brothers are inconsolable. However your messages of love and kindness will help us through this nightmare.?
Charlie was struck by a train on the northbound platform of Cheshunt station just after 2pm, and died at the scene.
An investigation was carried out on the scene by British Transport Police, and last week a spokesman confirmed Charlie?s death is not being treated as suspicious.
Charlie was a cadet in the 2473 (Highlands & Southgate) Squadron Air Training Corps based in Enfield, and a spokesman for the group post a tribute on its website.
He said: ?May our sincere condolences be with William Davis? family in this hard time.
?He was a very kind and respected person, who touched the hearts of everybody he met. He will be sorely missed.?
Hertford Regional College Principal Andy Forbes called Charlie?s death a ?tragic accident? and said: ?Charlie was a polite, well spoken and enthusiastic student, who showed a particular interest in Information Technology and his engineering course at Hertford Regional College.
?The thoughts of the staff and students at Hertford Regional College are with the family at this difficult time.
Charlie?s engineering tutor Peter Bishop also paid tribute to the youngster: ?Curiosity is the word that I would use to describe Charlie.
?He always questioned, and challenged, and showed tenacity when dealing with a task.
?He had pleasant manner, with a hint of humour that was always present.?
A memorial page on social networking site Facebook was set up the day after Charlie?s death, and it attracted nearly 1,500 likes within five days.
It describes Charlie as ?a down-to-earth, intelligent, sophisticated and kind-hearted guy that stole the heart of many people with his humour.
?He will be dearly missed by many.?
Adel Maris Mead used the page to write: ?Words can?t describe how I?m feeling , but Charlie I love you your like a brother you were there when I need you most you was me rock you helped me through a hard time and I thank you very much for that and I never got a chance to thank you an when you see this from the world above just remember I love you and always will.?
Ruth Sands said: ?Charlie - an adorable little boy who grew up into a kind, thoughtful and beautiful young man.
?May God keep you safe by his side always. Our thoughts and prayers are with family and friends.?
His family used the page to make people aware of a memorial service organised for March 8 at 4.30pm in Highlands school in Enfield.
They wrote: ?All who know and love him are welcome to bring the stories of exploits, stories of fun and laughter. We look forward to seeing you there. Tony, Valerie, Alex and Chris Davis.?
